Overview

Movement is one of the things that makes us human, whether it is movement of the body or the slow movement of justice. In this keynote address, Stephanie Lurch explores notions of injustice, interconnectedness, personal agency and liberation within the contested space of the physiotherapy profession. Using personal stories and art she addresses difficult truths, provokes criticality and urges us to rethink how we live, work, learn and play.

Audience

This presentation from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Congress in April 2024 is for all physiotherapists and healthcare professionals.

Presenter: Stephanie Lurch - Contemporary Physiotherapist and Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto

Stephanie Lurch

Stephanie Lurch is a changemaker.

She is a contemporary physiotherapist and educator who resists the traditional, and in doing so stimulates critical thinking. A deeply committed leader, advocate, storyteller, and humanitarian, Stephanie is a powerful example of how physiotherapists can give voice to some of the biggest issues facing our patients and our planet.

She is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, an Assistant Clinical Professor (adjunct) at McMaster University, and a practicing paediatric physiotherapist. Noteworthy contributions include co-authoring both the Essential Competency Profile for Physiotherapists in Canada (2017) and equity-driven revisions for Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (2020), working with Cirque du Soleil, and raising amazing twin boys. Her upcoming book chapter on EDI in PT promises to further her impact.
